Anthology Distribution

Hello Strollers,

If you’ve been following our attempts to get the Stroll of Poets Anthology 2020 into the hands of as many members as possible, you’ll know we had two very successful Distribution Days—one on August 15 and one on October 3. However, a number of members have still not received the complementary copy that is one of the perks of Stroll membership.

We need to hear from you if you want to receive your copy of the 2020 anthology. The Board has set a deadline of October 24, 2020, for you to let us know.

If you would like a copy, please contact us at strollantho@writersguild.ab.ca. Arrangements will be made either to mail your copy to you or for you to pick it up at the location disclosed when you contact us via this email.

After October 24, any remaining copies will be released for sale to those who wanted additional copies but were unable to get them due to high demand.

The Poets’ Haven Returns!

The Stroll of Poets is pleased to announce the launch of our 2020/2021 Poets’ Haven reading series. The theme of the launch for our 30th year is “Haven From Home.” We will be communing this season from the comfort of our homes, sharing the poetry that weaves us together via Zoom.

Our readings will be happening every two weeks this year, with our usual format of featured readers and open mic. We will share more information on how to sign up for reading slots and mic host assistance in the near future. To start our year, we’re looking forward to bringing you two evenings of open mic readings (October 12 and 26).

If you have any questions or know anyone who would like to join our online reading nights and is not a Stroll member please direct them to strollquestions@gmail.com.

Anthology Distribution #2

Since our first anthology pick up was such a success, we’d like to give those who weren’t able to join us a second opportunity on Saturday, October 3, 1-4 pm. If you’re unavailable perhaps it might be possible to have someone else do so on your behalf.

Before coming to pick up your anthology, please make sure you are feeling well and have not had any exposure to the COVID-19 virus. The safety of all our members and their loved ones is paramount. For complete details on location and safety guidelines please contact strollantho@writersguild.ab.ca

President’s Message, August 2020

Greetings Strollers,

I hope the summer has provided you some opportunities to enjoy the warmth and abundance of green. Those who enjoy gardening must be truly savouring these bountiful days. Some of you may have experienced Deborah Lawson’s lovely yard and garden when you dropped by her place for our recent anthology distribution. We are grateful to her for offering her residence, as we are to her, Naomi McIlwraith and Audrey Brooks for their efforts to coordinate the event. Thanks also to the volunteers who assisted. Plans for further distribution of anthologies are being developed, and we will be able to share details in the near future.

The Poets’ Haven committee have been meeting regularly to develop a plan for moving our readings to an online format. Unfortunately, our venue partners will not be able to meet our needs for the foreseeable future. The Upper Crust Café can only seat eighteen safely and Audreys Books is limiting itself to pick-up orders of books. As far as the launch of a new Haven season goes, it looks like our original starting date of September 14 will have to be postponed. The challenges of structuring an on-line series have necessitated a longer development process for the volunteers involved. We will keep you posted on a launch date when more details are available.

In the meantime, my friends, take care of yourself and your families. Stay in touch with our weekly newsletter for the most current updates and don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns (leppardjohn@hotmail.com). All the very best from the board and associates.

Yours in verse,
John Leppard
